Roots, Growth, and Getting Our Hands Dirty: Behind the Scenes at Foothills Recovery

Not everything that matters happens in a therapy session.

Sometimes it happens in the dirt, with gloves on, sleeves rolled up, and a little help from your neighbors.

Lately, staff, residents, and leadership from the Clinton County Extension Office have been putting in time and heart to grow something together at Foothills Recovery. And really? It’s one of the most fitting things we could be doing.

More Than a Garden

There’s something quietly powerful about growing things.

A garden asks you to slow down. To tend to something beyond yourself. To show up consistently, not because anyone is watching, but because the plants need you to. It rewards patience. It responds to care. And it has a way of reminding you that growth, real growth, doesn’t happen all at once.

Sound familiar?

For the residents of Foothills Recovery, working in the garden isn’t just a way to spend an afternoon. It’s a living, breathing reminder of exactly what they’re doing in their own lives– putting in the work, day by day, and trusting that something good is taking root.

Community Grows Here

What makes this garden especially meaningful is who’s in it.

Residents working alongside staff. Leadership from the Clinton County Extension Office bringing their knowledge, their time, and their investment in what we’re building here. People from different walks of life, gathered around a shared purpose.

That’s Foothills Recovery in a nutshell.

We’ve always believed that recovery doesn’t happen in isolation. It happens in community — in the relationships built over shared meals, shared work, and yes, shared garden beds. When outside partners like the Clinton County Extension Office show up to work alongside our residents, it sends a message that goes beyond horticulture: You are part of something bigger. This community is rooting for you.

We’re grateful for that partnership, and proud to be putting down roots together, literally.

This Is Who We Are

It would be easy to only share the big milestones, the treatment completions, the move-in days, the new jobs. And those moments are absolutely worth celebrating.

But this? This is the everyday stuff. The behind-the-scenes moments that don’t always make it into the highlight reel but are every bit as important to the story.

This is staff who care enough to get their hands dirty alongside the people they serve. Residents who are rediscovering what it feels like to nurture something and watch it grow. Partners who believe in this community enough to show up, roll up their sleeves, and dig in.

This is Foothills Recovery on a regular Tuesday. And we think that’s worth sharing.

Rooted in Something Real

Recovery is about rebuilding a whole life– not just getting sober, but rediscovering purpose, connection, and belonging. It’s about learning to care for yourself and the people around you. It’s about being part of something that matters.

A garden might seem like a small thing. But around here, we know that small things– tended to consistently, with love and intention– have a way of growing into something remarkable.

Stay tuned. We’ll keep you posted on how things grow.
